Live Edge Furniture: Natural Character, Made for Your Home
Share
Some furniture brings order to a room. Live edge furniture brings something less predictable: the character of the tree itself.
An organic contour. A sweep of grain. A shape that doesn’t repeat.
At Lumber Furniture, our live edge pieces celebrate those differences. From statement dining tables to distinctive coffee tables and a striking solid timber bed, this collection lets the material lead the design.
What makes live edge furniture different?
Live edge furniture preserves the timber’s natural outer contours rather than cutting every edge into a straight line. The result is a piece that feels connected to its origins, with a shape and grain pattern that make it distinctly individual.
That doesn’t mean unfinished or overly rustic. Thoughtful proportions, considered bases and carefully finished surfaces bring the timber into contemporary interiors without removing what makes it special.
The beauty lies in the balance: nature’s irregularity, refined for everyday living.
A dining table with its own identity
The dining table is where live edge timber can make its most generous statement. Its surface becomes part of the room’s character, whether you’re gathering for a quiet meal or filling the table with family and friends.
Our Marri Live Edge Dining Table, Blackbutt Live Edge Dining Table and Messmate Live Edge Dining Table celebrate natural timber contours through custom-made designs crafted in our Moorabbin workshop.
For a different expression, the Marri Live Edge Phoenix Dining Table pairs its organic top with a solid timber U-shaped base. It brings together the movement of the slab and a clean, grounded structure.
The timber remains the focal point. The design gives it room to speak.
Statement slabs, extraordinary presence
For spaces that call for a bolder centrepiece, our Monkeypod Live Edge Slab Dining Table and Claro Live Edge Slab Dining Table offer distinct expressions of single-slab furniture.
Monkeypod is described by its warm honeyed browns and flowing grain, while Claro Walnut brings deep chocolate tones with ribbons of caramel and dark amber. Each slab’s natural movement becomes an essential part of the finished table.
The Double Drip Slab Dining Table takes that sculptural approach further, with a cascading base that gives the piece architectural presence.
These are designs to plan a room around, rather than simply fit into it.
Live edge beyond the dining room
A smaller piece can bring just as much individuality into a home.
Our Live Edge Coffee Table pairs a timber slab top with Monarch Loop legs, bringing organic character into the living room through a clean, modern design. Timber options include Blackbutt, Marri and Messmate, with the final slab configuration depending on availability.
The Heart Slab Coffee Table offers another interpretation, using an irregular Marri or Tuart slab mounted on a powder-coated steel base.
In the bedroom, our Live Edge Solid Timber Bed makes the headboard the focal point. Natural curves and grain detail bring warmth and presence, while the platform base keeps the overall design simple. This piece is available for Melbourne customers.
Choosing a piece for your space
Start with the room, then explore the timber.
Consider how much space you need around a dining table, how the base works with your seating, and whether you want the timber to make a bold statement or sit quietly within your interior.
Because slabs vary in shape, tone and grain, choosing live edge furniture is also about choosing the individual material. Photos of available slabs and a conversation about your preferred dimensions can help you find the right direction.
You don’t need every element in the room to compete. Simple chairs, soft textiles and a restrained palette can give the timber space to be appreciated.
Furniture with character, not repetition
The appeal of live edge furniture is not perfect uniformity. It is the opposite.
It is knowing that the contour, grain and movement of your piece belong to that timber. That its individuality is part of the design, not something to be removed.
