Locating the Perfect Timber

Matt, with his keen eye for detail, scoured a local demolition site to find the perfect timber for John's dining table. After careful consideration, he selected a set of reclaimed boards that would create a stunning 1.2m wide by 3m long table. These boards, rich in history and character, were about to be transformed into a piece that would grace John's home for years to come.

The Transformation Process

Before the transformation could begin, the reclaimed timber needed some preparation. Matt meticulously de-nailed each board, removing approximately 300 nails to ensure a smooth surface. With the boards ready, he then thicknessed them to a uniform size and joined them using large dominoes. This method not only ensured a strong bond but also allowed the natural beauty of the timber to shine through.

Revealing the Natural Beauty

As the table top took shape, the natural features of the reclaimed timber began to emerge. Knots, grains, and imperfections that tell a story of a previous life added to the table's character. To enhance these features and ensure durability, Matt decided to fill any voids with resin. This process not only added strength but also created a stunning visual effect, highlighting the uniqueness of each board.

The Final Touches

After the resin work was complete, the table went through a series of sanding and oiling processes. This not only brought out the natural lustre of the timber but also added a protective layer, ensuring the table would withstand the test of time. The final result was a breathtaking reclaimed timber dining table, 5cm thick, that exceeded John's expectations.

John's Joy

When John saw the completed table in his home, he was overjoyed. The table not only fit perfectly in his space but also added a touch of warmth and character to his dining area. The photos of the table in John's home are a testament to the beauty and craftsmanship that went into creating it.
